Another short walk east takes you to the coast of the island. You can pass through one of the gates to a wonderful walkway right next to the ocean.

The view is spectacular being surrounded by the ocean on one side and the ancient fortified walls of the city on the other.

Back in the city, old and vibrantly painted buildings fight for space. The roads are very tight with scarce room for cars and people together. Most of the roads in old Puerto Rico are paved with beautiful blue cobblestones. I would imagine they are spectacular when rained on and in good light.
